THE Esplanade Recreation Ground and Kiddies Corner in New Amsterdam, Berbice, will be rehabilitated following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between telephone company Digicel and the Town Council. The signing took place in the Town Hall early last month, Digicel Public Relation Manager, Ms. Shonnet Moore disclosed.
She said the company is seeking a closer relationship with the municipality and within the stipulated three-year period, the facilities will be transformed and would not be the same.
The documentation, to which Mayor Claude Henry, Town Clerk Angelina Collins and Park Chairperson Winifred Haywood affixed their signatures, obligated the mobile company to supply all materials for the improvement of the Kiddies Corner, as well.
In addition, Digicel will take full and complete charge of the rehabilitation, maintenance and improvement. However, the Council shall, in a timely manner, dispose of all solid waste generated from the usage of the playground.
Meanwhile, in another development, the Council of Friends of New Amsterdam (COFONA) donated an additional touch screen Dell computer, making a total of six instruments being given towards the enhancement of services offered.
New Amsterdam Chapter representative Marcia Williams made the presentation and Town Clerk Collins expressed gratitude for the gesture.
