DIWALI UTSAV
– at Providence Stadium on Sunday
THE Guyana National Stadium at Providence will be the venue for top singers and musicians in what the Sabha describes as Diwali Utsav on Sunday 16th October 2011. Indar Kanhai and his sister Nandanie Kanhai with Andy Singh and the Trisul Orchestra of Trinidad and Tobago will perform in a magnificent programme in which Guyanese top singers Mohan Nandu, Sookrane Boodhoo, Rekha Singh and Suchitra Rampersaud will also be featured. Entertaining and vibrant dances will be done by the Dharmic Nritya Sangh.
The Sabha, in a statement noted that Indar Kanhai, who came to Guyana once before, is extremely popular with the crowd and he is undisputedly a dynamic artiste. It said the environment will be transformed and the entertainment level will be at its peak. The Sabha said this is the first time it has organized such a programme and persons are urged not to miss it.
“This event is not confined to singing and music since it has characteristics peculiar to Diwali Nagar (village),” the Sabha stated.
Festive and intricately decorated and illuminated structures will be placed around the ground, the Sabha said. It said, too, that persons are invited to participate in Rangoli-making (coloured rice decorations).
“It will be the ultimate shopping venue for Diwali items, Indian clothing, jewellery, mehendi designs, face painting for children, circle dancing for everyone and games.”
Hot, tasty and delicious seven curry, samosas, pholourie, potato balls, sweets and other delicacies will be available.
Tickets are $1000 and are available at Murtishop, West Coast Demerara; M & M Snackette – East Bank Demerara; R. Gossai’s – East Bank Demerara; Bhagwan’s – Water Street; Red Mango – Robb Street; and the Dharmic Kendra. Children under 10 are free. Seats will be provided for all. No alcohol will be allowed.
In addition to Diwali Utsav,the Dharmic Sabha will be holding countrywide motorcades beginning on October 22nd. On October 25th, the biggest motorcade will be held at the LBI Community Centre Ground, East Coast Demerara where some 3 million dollars in prizes will be up for grabs in the large, small and commercial categories. Diwali will be celebrated on October 26th.
