Mother took marijuana in ‘bake’ for prisoner son
A WOMAN appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday and pleaded guilty to taking a prohibited item into the Camp Street, Georgetown Prison.
Sumindra Singh, of Lot 147 Cooper Street Albouystown, also in the city, admitted that, on October 10, she took one and a half grammes of cannabis (marijuana) into the penitentiary but, after she explained the circumstances, the magistrate entered a not guilty plea.
The defendant said she always takes food for her prisoner son but, that day, his girlfriend prepared the meal and, when his mother opened the package in front of an officer, the narcotic, about which she had no knowledge, was inside the ‘bake’.
Following her explanation, Singh was put on $25,000 bail and will get a trial on October 17.
