Noting that PPP/C continues to right wrongs prior to 1992…

Dr. Luncheon lauds President Jagdeo’s astute leadership
– says Jagdeo will be remembered for generations and centuries to come

HEAD of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS) Dr. Roger Luncheon, during an impassioned address to thousands of PPP supporters at the Kitty campaign rally on Sunday, urged the gathering to “give thanks” to President Bharrat Jagdeo for his astute leadership, under which the country has undergone tremendous
development and successes and for which he will be remembered for generations and centuries to come. According to him, the development and progress witnessed in the country, under the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Administration, have been “nothing short of a miracle” and he called on those gathered at the campaign rally to recognise the role they have played in placing their confidence in the party since 1992.
“How many endured the 28 years of the PNC in the wilderness? How many ever thought that there would come a time in the history of Guyana that we would see what we have today. You have had reason for the confidence in the party and have shown the correctness of your choices since 1992, in creating and bringing hope in Guyana. It is the PPP, it is your courage, your determination, your support that has wrought the miracle in this land,” Dr. Luncheon remarked.
In recognition of this, Luncheon urged the gathering to “give thanks” to President Jagdeo for his astute leadership of Guyana.

He also noted that Guyana will owe a large part of its ascension in the regional and international arenas to President Jagdeo’s unwavering commitment, dedication and inspirational leadership.
Luncheon also pledged that the PPP/C will continue its valiant efforts towards improving the lives of Amerindians in Guyana and “righting the wrongs” the indigenous peoples have endured over the years.
Making the pledge while addressing the massive turnout of PPP supporters, Luncheon noted that, prior to the party’s assent to office in 1992, there were many injustices faced by the people of this nation, most notable among the first peoples, a situation that the PPP Administration has sought dedicatedly to rectify.
Luncheon declared: “One of the most grievous wrongs that the PPP/C Government has been giving great and unlimited attention to is dealing with the first peoples, our Amerindian brothers and sisters. They were marginalised over the years and it is in the years of the PPP, since 1992, that we have begun, seriously, to right the wrongs.”
According to the HPS, under the current Administration, the works that have been effected on behalf of the Amerindians have been “renowned and recognised” and brought, with them, innumerable benefits.
He reiterated that works will continue in this regard.
“Where we are today, from 1992 to 2011, what we have done has never been done elsewhere, in terms of righting such a colossal wrong…our obligations to the first peoples will be taken on by our next PPP/C Administration, it will be taken on by our next President and our Amerindian people can rest assured that their best fortunes lie in the hands of the PPP,” Luncheon asserted.
Additionally, he emphasised that Afro-Guyanese today no longer need to feel that they will face “enmity and discrimination” for supporting the PPP/C, as this is another “wrong” which has been corrected since 1992.
“In the times of today, as we look forward confidently into the future, there is still this wrong to be righted. I speak of Afro-Guyanese comrades. No Afro-Guyanese man, woman, child or leader should ever feel that coming out for the PPP is a risk and they will have to face enmity, discrimination and the scorn of others…we belong, we were there in the beginning and we were part of the dream and the spirit of 1953,” Luncheon proclaimed.
