Why should we allow such lawlessness here in Guyana?

THE recent protest following the censure of CNS TV6 for four months is a political stunt by Sharma and his opposition supporters to divert our attention from the court case pending. Ever since the landmark ruling for one Tyrone Mortley for rape of a minor, Sharma would have been at his wits end as to his own alleged statutory rape case.
Twenty five years is quite a tall order for a man in his sixties so the smart thing to do is pay the president a visit and beg your way through on a four-month ban (his wife suggested eight).  President Jagdeo for his own part gloated on Sharma’s entreaty which would make a good plot for an hilarious comedy at the Theatre Guild. With that raw creolese of Sharma I could hear him say “meh bass doan jail meh ah guh vote for yuh jus tek me aff de air.’ As jocular as it sounds, I can guarantee you this was the plea of that paedophilic con artist.

Let me make it abundantly clear, Sharma or any of those dubious characters that were at his vigil do not pose a threat to the PPP/C.  They know it and the world at large know it. So do not fool yourselves with this nonsense of a gag order on free speech. It is  far from it. Sharma was there to save his hide. Again, I will pose the question to the protesters: why did the US incarcerate Abdul Kareem and associates for life? For a country that promotes free speech, this was a draconian move for men who were just “horsing around” in private conversation. Then why should we allow such lawlessness here in Guyana?
