Cabinet regards 2011 GuyExpo as most successful ever
THE 2011 GuyExpo has been regarded, by Cabinet, as the “most successful ever” and the “largest ever attended” with over 40,000 patrons and 300 exhibitors.
Head of the Presidential Secretariat (HPS) and Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon reported that yesterday, at his weekly post-Cabinet news conference in Office of the President, Shiv Chanderpaul Drive, Georgetown.
He said the event also saw overseas presence from Suriname, Brazil, Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Mexico and India. “Patrons were provided with basic facilities that had significantly improved over past offerings, which included better lights, security and parking.”
The outcome was “unquestionably” successful, due to the good organisation by Minister of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, Mr. Manniram Prashad, Luncheon stated.
The show, at the Sophia Exhibition Site, in Greater Georgetown, was staged from September 29 to October 2 under the theme ‘Enhancing Growth through Competitiveness’ and the entrance fee was $500 for adults and $300 for children.
Dubbed the Caribbean’s premier Trade Fair and Exhibition, GuyExpo has been lauded as the longest sustained and has become a calendar event in Guyana, attracting a significant number of local and overseas exhibitors, as well as foreign buyers and investors from the Caribbean, Latin America, Europe and North America.
Major sponsors included corporate giants Digicel, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), Banks DIH, Ansa McAl and Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL).
