THE October Criminal Sessions, at which 205 cases are listed for hearing, opened with pomp in Georgetown Tuesday, with the traditional ceremonial parade performed by the Guyana Police Band and 60 ranks of the Tactical Services Unit.
Justice Winston Patterson one of the two judges assigned to preside at the sessions inspected the Guard of Honour on South Road, outside of the Victoria Law courts and later took the salute during the march-past.
Acting Chief Justice Mr. Ian Chang and all his available judges including Justice Dawn Gregory, the other presiding judge at the session, were in attendance.
Following the parade, there was an address to the new jurors by the Supreme Court Registrar. This was followed by the empanelment of a jury to try accused Cyon Collier, in the Non Pariel murder case.
The accused is indicted for the murder of Chandrapaul Persaud, allegedly committed on September 30, 2006.
The hearing, conducted before Justice Patterson and a mixed jury, was adjourned to Wednesday.
