CN speaks with a forked tongue
Reflecting on what CN said just before his channel went off air on Monday, somehow the old adage of, “only in GT”, comes to mind. He whined about his staff not being able to earn during the four-month penalty period. He whined even more, almost crying, that the Opposition would not have the opportunity for their messages to be heard for the upcoming elections. He even added, for sympathy, that the upcoming Christmas season would not bring the usual yuletide for him and his staff.
He insisted that the staff would have to be sent home and even asked that the government provide jobs for them in the interim. The best is yet to come. As he wrapped up his monologue, which was almost all of the day in question, he said, channel 6 will still be OPEN for business as usual during the suspension! Amazing! Only in GT! The staff will be affected even though the entity will remain open? Is he getting different staff? Is he firing the current bunch? This is CN for you.
So, according to him, all will be well. It’s business as usual. So, why whine? In other words, the suspension will have no effect on his business! Is it all a façade to gain sympathy? If it is, then he will get none. Those who speak with forked-tongues, well you know the rest! People have seen through him; staff included. He said the suspension will not affect his campaign, or lack thereof. Again, business as usual. Again only in GT! But, hold. That’s not all. He almost broke down lobbying for the Opposition.
On reflection, are the Guyanese people to assume that channel 6 is THE voice of the Opposition? It is no longer the “Voice of the People”? When did the change occur CN? And everyone thought that the channel was for all. Oh, how hearts will be broken now. The forked tongue has been exposed. During all his rants on Monday, he avoided the real issue. His channel violated the boundaries of decency which are to be upheld for responsible broadcasting. What? Decency? CN? Broadcasting? An odd sequence? Oh oh!
Despite being informed of the impending suspension, he spent the last few hours of authorised time lobbying for another suspension. His “voice”, in which the people were noticeably absent, was rabid with spurious accusations and slander. Oh, when will you learn CN? When would you learn that, ultimately, you are responsible for the suspension? You are responsible for the “plight”, to use your word, which your staff are now encountering. You are the one that was responsible for the airing of the tape. No surprises here. Vintage CN would pass the blame.
His staff who are not responsible for the suspension, now will be inconvenienced. Oh, given the confidence he exuded about the vigil to follow, it was surprising that only a small gathering of about a hundred or so turned up even though cooking utensils were prominent. Is that the strength of CN’s Opposition? Is that all they could have mustered? No wonder their campaign is yet to take flight! Obviously they need a lift. Need a crane to hire, CN? Many are available right here in GT. What? Still whining? Oh, you are scared of heights? Awaaah!
