The Guyana Energy Agency continues to promote energy awareness throughout Guyana and will be celebrating Energy Week 2011 from November 7-11.
Guyana is proud to have revived its annual Energy Week observances, as 2011 marks the first time several CARICOM member states will be observing Energy Week simultaneously.
The week of activities seeks to sensitise the younger population on energy use and the critical role it plays in Guyana’s development.
The amount of energy utilised daily is determined by a range of activities, such as the use of motor vehicles, appliances, cooking habits and daily chores. Minor adjustments in daily routines and choices can conserve energy and save money. A key feature of a low carbon future is one in which the society addresses the developmental needs of its people while inculcating habits to foster more effective and efficient use of energy.
This year’s week of activities will include the following main activities:
1: Interactive Discussion and TV quiz for five days (November 7-11) on NCN Channel 11
2: Poster Competition for students of Grades 4 to 9
3: Energy seminar and exhibition under the theme “Guyana’s Youths: Adopting Clean Low-Energy Lifestyles”, and
4: Powerpoint presentations to Grades 4, 5 and 6 to sensitise youths to the effective and efficient use of energy.
