Despite retraction by KN, much damage has been done

IN life sometimes it is not about ‘what’ one does, but ‘when’ and ‘how’ something is done. In this regard, one gets mixed feelings regarding Kaieteur News (KN) and its distancing of itself from the seemingly ugly and ill-bred character of Sasenarine Singh.
An alleged liar and extortionist, nothing good has ever been uttered by him. So one has to wonder why is it that only now, KN has seen it fit to retract one of his letters. KN has been his medium for a long time now. So the questions are plentiful at the moment.

First, KN claims that it was the unedited version of Sasenarine’s letter that was accidentally published. Well, one cannot ask too much now to see the edited version.
Apart from the original and unedited version being fraught with libellous statements, the letter, as all can see, is filled with horrible innuendoes, sarcasm, mockery and personal attacks. It is distasteful and unfit for the reading public. So, edited or not, the letter reeks of a stance that seems to suit the fancies of KN. This appears so, because KN has this malignant feature. The paper has another writer who practises the same kind of thing-employing gossips, personal attacks and subtle innuendoes, in seeking to make points which cannot be substantiated.
According to the statement of apology, KN is making a claim that Sasenarine Singh made a number of ‘unsubstantiated’ and ‘libellous’ claims, in his article, “All Hail the boy Emperor.” One can ask if this is the first time that this has happened, and why only now KN is ‘pulling the plug’. The newspaper further explained that Sasenarine, for some time now, has been writing a number of letters that are ‘usually riddled with statements, which sometimes are not fit for publication”. This evokes a ‘daaw’ at the jovial level, but on a serious note, it shows up KN for what it really is-a newspaper that loves ‘muckraking’ and one tinged with a suspicious past, according to Wiki leaks Cables. So fully retracting the letter in its ‘entirety,’ does not and cannot really suffice. A lot of damage has already been done.

It is hoped that KN will make amends for this egregious blunder. Think upon this: if the Guyana Chronicle had done something of this nature, no ends of it would have been heard. Chronicle would have been crucified. One good though is that KN has been justly exposed, even though not quite and condignly damaged. This may yet happen.
