14-year-old student found hanging in toilet at Charity Secondary

A 14-year-old Second Form student was found dead around 11:30 hrs yesterday, hanging by his neck from a piece of polythene in a toilet at the Charity Secondary School on the Essequibo Coast.

Reports said that the student, Kester De Agreilla, from Karawah, an Amerindian community on the Upper Pomeroon River, is suspected to have committed suicide.

Reports are not clear as to what caused him to end his life in such a tragic manner.

The incident yesterday left students and teachers in confusion, and has disrupted classes at the school. The body was discovered by another student who went to use the washroom. An alarm was raised and police rushed to the scene, quickly cut the rope that was tied to a beam and took the body down.

The student was found fully dressed in his school uniform. The headmistress and teachers of the school are being questioned by the police.
