A SIXTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD woman sergeant, employed with Professional Guard Service (PGS), succumbed at Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) yesterday, shortly after collapsing.
Lynette Jeffrey, of Lot 22 Sancho Street, Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara, is suspected to have died of a heart attack.
PGS Managing Director, Mr. Dougal Kirkpatrick said he was deeply saddened at her death as she was a valued staff.
He recalled that Jeffrey, who has been with the firm since 2004, fell ill around 07:00 hrs, having just completed her shift and was preparing to leave for home.
“She complained of feeling unwell and said she was experiencing pains in the region of her heart, then collapsed shortly after,” Kirkpatrick reported.
He said Sergeant Jeffrey was picked up by another staffer who placed her in one of the company’s vehicles and rushed her to the Accident and Emergency (A&E) Unit.
She was alive on arrival at the hospital but died around 10:30 hrs while receiving treatment at the institution.
Kirkpatrick, who knew Jeffrey personally, described her as “a very efficient, very sincere and very loyal individual” who was an asset to the PGS and whose loss will leave a huge void.
On behalf of the security firm and his own, Kirkpatrick extended profound sympathy to her relatives and friends.
A post mortem examination is to be performed on her body tomorrow.
