AFTER all the bold headlines, front page coverage, comparisons etc., Kaieteur News apparently ate ‘humble pie’ because the follow-up story it carried in its Sunday September 11 edition titled: “How NIS Berbice branch cost $69M …” did not provide us with the evidence of corruption insinuated when it first covered the reconstruction of the National Insurance Scheme’s (NIS) Corriverton office. And this comes after the newspaper boasted of having the top auditors in its employ go over the bill of quantities provided by the NIS.
The other side of this though is that after causing significant public embarrassment to those concerned with this project and their families as well as to the government, Kaieteur News is simply allowed to move on. Had such actions been meted out to a citizen by an entity of the state the heavens would’ve been brought down on earth.
This particular brand of journalism being practised by the Kaieteur News where sensationalism is used to fuel sales in an ever competitive market and where one citizen uses his ownership of a newspaper to settle personal scores with his adversaries is deplorable and also deserves condemnation.
Kaieteur News should report on the facts and stop being sensational.
Where is the evidence of corruption insinuated by Kaieteur News?
