FOR the eighth successive year, the Guyana Beverages Company (GBC) and the successful Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC) have joined together to organise and sponsor the club’s annual ‘Busta Champion of Champions’ tournament in the Ancient County. At a simple presentation ceremony held in the Diamond, East Bank Demerara-based boardroom of the sponsor, Chief Executive Officer of RHTYSC, Hilbert Foster, said the sponsor has for over the past seven years, invested millions of dollars into Guyana’s best youth and sports club, for which he is grateful.
“Eight years in the life of a sports club and more importantly, in the life of a major cricket sponsorship is very important. In these difficult economic situations, we all have to go through a regular basis where one is often left to wonder if any company would renew its sponsorship for the following year.
The RHTYSC, since its formation in September of 1991, has been blessed to be surrounded by a dedicated group of sponsors who stood by our side in and out of season, with one of them being the Guyana Beverages Company, under the dynamic leadership of Robert Selman,” said Foster.
He further stated, “Over the last seven years, the company has invested millions in our club through the Busta Champion of Champions tournaments in Berbice. All of the tournaments have been properly organised and were successfully run, and at the same time the most popular and sought-after tournament in Berbice. It has also been the hallmark of the club.”
In his brief remarks, Selman, in his capacity of Managing Director of GBC, outlined the strong administration and accountability of the club which would, at all times, encourage him to sponsor the tournament.
“I must say a special thanks to the club for the job they have been doing over the past seven years when we joined forces together and I know that in 2012, we will be partnering with them again, since their accountability is second to none.
Added to that, sports is the only form or way we can as a company, keep our young people away from the ills that have been plaguing our society and we at the GBC feel pleased to know that we can play our part in sponsoring a tournament thanks to Clubs such as the RHTYSC.”
According to Foster, eight teams, namely Blairmont, Memorex Bermine, Young Warriors, Edinburgh, Skeldon, Police, Port Mourant and defending champions Rose Hall Town Gizmos and Gadgets would battle for supremacy in the tournament which kicks off this Saturday at four venues.
Players, such as Anthony Bramble, Junior Blair, Rajiv Ivan, Royston and Esaun Crandon, Assad Fudadin, Michael Newland and Richard Ramdeen just to name a few, will be donning the coloured T-shirts provided by the sponsor for their respective clubs.
The top team in the tournament will pocket $80 000 and the Champion of Champions trophy, the runner-up team will receive $50 000 while several individual incentives would be up for grabs in the tournament which is expected to run for four weeks.
