… 13 gyms to participate
HISTORY will be created on Friday when the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) stages its Intermediate competition at the National Gymnasium.
Thirteen gyms, the largest ever at an intermediate competition, will compete at the second major event organised this year by GABA. According to Technical Director Terrence Poole over 70 boxers are expected to participate.
The gyms scheduled to take part are: Forgotten Youth Foundation, GDF, Harpy Eagles, Five Star, Ricola Warriors, Central New Amsterdam, Rose Hall Jammers, Tiger Eye, Pocket Rocket, Young Achievers, Carryl Boxing Gym, Republican Gym and Essequibo Boxing Gym.
“This is the first time that such a large number of gyms will be participating at an intermediate competition. I think that the more gyms, the better the competition,” the technical director said.
Poole said that weigh-in will be on Thursday afternoon at the Gymnasium and the first fight will commence at 19:00hrs the following day.
GABA president Steve Ninvalle, Director of Sport Neil Kumar and president of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control, Peter Abdool, will be present at the opening ceremony.
