Mark Archer’s misinformation, distortions proliferate

FROM the beginning of Mark Archer’s foray into the local media, his lies, misinformation and distortions have proliferated into every realm of the letter pages in the Stabroek news and Kaieteur newspapers dailies. His constant ridicule and dislike for the PPPC Administration may be understood, given his relationship with David Granger, with whom he served in the army as a conspirator of the unleashing of the PNC’s doings on Guyanese. Archer was one of those who carried out instructions to subvert our constitution during the PNC era which the most undemocratic period in our history. The hypocrisy in his sudden awakening of realities in Guyana is too glaring. One may want to attribute his failing accounts of Guyana then, and now, to either a deliberate effort to misinform and distort or resort to convenient memory lapses. Archer would have an arduous task to convince us of any other motive behind his letter writings. The freedoms Guyana enjoy today should not be misused by the likes of Archer to present his lies, misinformation and distortions.
Guyana, under the PPPC, has had and will continue to have development, hope and opportunities abounding. I will not pretend everything is perfect here and would be one of those realistic Guyanese who admit there is still more work to be done in creating an ideal Guyana.
Notwithstanding, our country has seen unprecedented development under the PPPC Administrations in every area, because of our better performing economy- undisputable consolidation of our democracy, more schools, roads, water and sanitation facilities, hospitals, better paid teachers, nurses, doctors and public servants in general.
Yes, there is still a lot more to do and the PPPC administration will continue to work tirelessly to realize the dreams of all Guyanese. The fact is, Mr. Archer, Guyana is much much better off now than it has ever been with reality growth and progress. Even the opposition members quietly admit Guyana has advanced tremendously.
Mr. Archer cannot be serious by suggesting the opposition is marginalized in this country. Since he claimed to be a keen observer of happenings Guyana, how then he missed the fact that the significant constitutional reform in Guyana has given more say to the opposition. The opposition, because of the PPPC Administration now chairs the Public accounts committee of Parliament, to which the Auditor-General of the Country reports. Imagine that!
There are several sectoral committees which the opposition enjoys chairmanship of; either permanently or on rotating basis. The opposition, under the PPPC can now present questions to government ministries in parliament among a host of other reforms at the parliament level.

The opposition leader has a role in the appointment of key constitutional post holders, such as the Chairman and Members of the Elections Commission, Police Service Commission, Teaching Service Commission, Integrity Commission, Public Service Commission. They have a big say in the formation of the five constitutional Rights Commissions.
Mr. Archer, have you forgotten the office of the leader of the opposition, profiting from staffing benefits and emoluments? Have you forgotten it was the PPPC administration that paid medical billions for Robert Corbin, Winston Murray and others, who benefited without the hullabaloo?
Taking a country forward requires serious people, committed to democracy and development. Mr. Archer no amount of writing will remove the scars inflicted by the PNC regime in your effort to repackage Granger.
Mr. Archer I am happy you enjoy democracy today, except that you misuse it to the detriment of your sordid reputation. I hope you could truthfully remind us why you parted company with the army without resorting to misinformation or memory lapse.
The sweeping needs to take place in your heart; rid it of the lies, misinformation and distortions you try to perpetuate on the society.
By the way I noticed your friends at Kaieteur News have given you a rare advantage by publishing two letters out of one submission. Lucky you!
