GPOC employee charged after pension fraud probe

AN EMPLOYEE of Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) has been charged with forgery and larceny by clerk or servant, following investigations into a pension fraud. Yonette Marks, of Lot 714 ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, Friday, but was not required to plead to the charges, one of which said, between September 1 and 5, with intent to defraud, she conspired together with persons unknown to forge 85 old age pension vouchers.
Another charge said between September 2 and 5, being a clerk or servant employed by GPOC, she stole $562,500, property of the State of Guyana.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar had no objection to bail but asked that it be substantial and for the accused to lodge her passport.
Marks was ordered to post $400,000 surety, as well as report to Brickdam Police Station every Monday and Friday until the termination of the trials.
She will make her next appearance on September 26.
