Alphonso announces $100M development at Charity Sports Ground
WELL-KNOWN businessman and miner, Mr. Alfro Alphonso, has announced that he will spend some $100M to develop the Charity Sports Ground, on the Essequibo Coast, to international standards.

Having already commissioned a $400M five-storeyed supermarket complex at Charity, also on the Essequibo Coast, he said his vision to develop the facility is because he wants to host international games of cricket and football and other events at the venue.
Alphonso said work at the location is to begin by next week and he is ready to invest $60M for the start of the project that includes fencing with eight feet high zinc sheets, a pavilion and sanitary facilities.
His aim is to make Charity Sports Ground the best in Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam), so Essequibians could be spectators to international contests there.
Last Saturday, Alphonso held a public meeting about the development at Charity, and reported after that Essequibians expressed joy at hearing the news and even pledged to contribute self-help towards its success.
Alphonso has invested significantly to develop Charity in collaboration with the Government and the regional administration.
Charity, which is earmarked for township status, hosts the biggest market day on Mondays, and is the gateway to the goldfields, Moruca, the North West District, Venezuela, and the Caribbean, through the Pomeroon River.
