Siriki villagers get well water for first time
RESIDENTS of Siriki, on the right bank of the Pomeroon River, have received a long awaited potable water supply and distribution system.
It was installed in the village by Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) at a cost of $11M, said Mr. Ishmael Ramkarran of the utility.
He said it comprises an artesian well and a pump powered by a solar panel which pushes water into an overhead tank from where it is distributed through standpipes placed at selected points.
According to him, the network allows the 350 odd villagers to access well water for the first time in their history.
Previously, water from the Pomeroon River and rainfall were the only sources available for domestic use.
Earlier this week, a villager told the Guyana Chronicle that the establishment of the distribution system was a highly welcome development.
He expressed gratitude to GWI and the Government for making their lives more comfortable.
The project, which was executed under the GWI Hinterland Component, was installed two weeks ago and is now being fully utilised by himself and other beneficiaries, he said.
