PAKISTAN put themselves in the driving seat entering the final day of the one-off Test against Zimbabwe after restricting the hosts to a low second-innings total in Bulawayo. Mohammad Hafeez was the pick of the tourists’ attack with four for 31 as Zimbabwe reached 135 for eight at stumps, a lead of just 81 runs.
A brace apiece for Aizaz Cheema and Saeed Ajmal also proved crucial, the pair accounting for Zimbabwe’s top four batsmen inside 14 overs.
The only resistance came from Tatenda Taibu, who dug in to reach 58 not out having smashed five fours and a six. Taibu will resume in the morning alongside Kyle Jarvis, whose gritty 20 not out frustrated the Pakistan attack.
Earlier, Younis Khan fell 12 runs short of a century but nevertheless helped Pakistan into a first-innings lead.
Resuming this morning on 357 for five, the tourists moved on to 466 all out to lead by 54.
Younis failed to convert his 24th Test fifty into a ton, instead dismissed on 88 after edging to Taylor in the slips off the bowling of Price. By then Adnana Akmal had already become the first victim of the morning when he was run out attempting a quick single having made an impressive 36 off 45 balls.
Sohail Khan was the third dismissal of the session, caught by Ervine at deep square leg off Chris Mpofu.
Pakistan failed to kick on after reaching lunch on 460 for eight, losing their final two wickets for the addition of just six more runs.
Junaid Khan was removed on six, the combination of Ervine and Mpofu again doing the damage, while Ajmal went in the next over, bowled by Price with a delivery that turned and just sneaked under the bat.( PA Sport).
