In an article published in the Guyana Chronicle on August 29, 2011, titled Women and Gender, Equality Commission honours 52 women of African Heritage, it was inadvertently stated that Minister Jennifer Webster said, “Before Guyana gained independence, women worked on plantations and were subjected to horrendous conditions. What Minister Webster said was, “Before Emancipation, women worked on plantations and were subjected to horrendous conditions.
GINA regrets the use of Independence instead of Emancipation.
