I must congratulate one “African-Guyanese” member of the PPP/C for speaking out on the claims of marginalisation. Unfortunately, not enough African-Guyanese in and out of government have done so. Unless, people like Minister Whittaker speaks up often and forcefully this charge will fester and continue to be believed by one too many. He highlighted the significant number of Afro-Guyanese who have been placed in senior government positions, including government ministers, permanent secretaries, and heads of agencies, among others. The idea that African-Guyanese only hold a few token positions has been peddled far too long, by politicians and anti-PPP critics, including overseas bloggers. African-Guyanese leaders emphasis must be placed on ensuring policies and programmes are equitably executed and that the constitution is upheld by legislative and legal means. Consultation and active participation must be employed before obstruction, boycotts and street protests. Mr. Whittaker is a welcome addition to Cabinet, we need more like him.
Others need to speak up against marginalisation charge
