Boxer refused bail on wounding, robbery charges

BOXER Dexter Marks, 25, of Lot 291 ‘B’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown, was remanded to prison yesterday on charges of felonious wounding, robbery under arms and using threatening language. Before Magistrate Hazel Octive-Hamilton, he was not required to plea to the charges, one of which stated that, on July 12, he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Andrew Swan with intent to maim, disfigure or disable him.
Another charge said, on July 19, Marks unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Felicia February, with intent to maim, disfigure or disable her.
The robbery under arms charge accused him of having, on August 19, being armed with a cutlass, robbed February of one Blackberry cell phone worth $145,000.
Marks pleaded not guilty to the threatening language charge, which said on July 12, he  used it on Lisa Hinds, causing a breach of the peace.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, objected to bail, telling the court that Marks went into hiding after he committed the offences and was arrested at Mahdia, in North West District.
Marks returns to court on October 5.
