In wife assault case…

‘Dem a watch me’ singer freed, pays costs
POPULAR Chutney singer Mahendra Ramkellawan had a charge of assault to cause actual bodily harm against him dismissed, after spending a night in the lock-ups at Providence Police Station.
The defendant, who shot to fame with his song ‘Dem a watch Me’, was charged with assaulting his wife, Samantha, at their Eccles residence on August 17 last.
He made his initial appearance before Magistrate Leslie Sobers in the courtroom adjoining the Providence Police Station, on the East Bank of Demerara, where he was forced to sleep overnight Tuesday, after being remanded in custody.
But on Wednesday, the virtual complainant testified, under oath, that she no longer wanted to have her husband prosecuted and was not going to give evidence against him.
Ramkellawan was, however, made to pay $50,000 court costs.
