Cocaine in kunds..

Bacchus couple further remanded, son on $1M bail
THE husband and wife, charged after the cocaine in kunds (Hindu religious urns) bust at their Enmore home, were further remanded to prison yesterday.
But Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin, before whom they appeared at Cove and John Court, also on East Coast Demerara, put their 15-year-old son on $1M bail.
The teen will have to make his next appearance together with his parents, Leonard and Indranie Bacchus, on October 5.
Defence Counsel Vic Puran made another failed bail application.
The lawyer said the Police officer gave a sworn testament in the High Court that he saw the defendants putting the cocaine in the kunds.
Puran said the drug, which was weighed in the defendants’ presence, amounted to 125 kilogrammes but the charge only said 67 kilogrammes 296 grammes and the evidence that will be tendered to the court will not be correct.
“I am making these points now, so that the prosecutor will not say I am making these things up along the way,” Defence Counsel declared.
The magistrate informed Puran that she will only grant bail to the juvenile, because of his age.
The couple and their son first appeared before Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, at Vigilance Court, on East Coast Demerara, too, where they pleaded not guilty to the drug offence.
Leonard Bacchus alone faced separate charges of possession of one hundred and twenty-five 12-gauge shotgun cartridges and one hundred and fifty-five .32 bullets and he denied them, as well.
