Car ploughs into house interrupting Ramadan prayers
A SMALL Muslim family, observing Ramadan, got the shock of their lives yesterday but, fortunately, escaped unscathed after a motor car crashed into their Bagotstown, East Bank Demerara home. The burgundy colour Toyota Corolla vehicle (PJJ 6704) hurtled through the wall of the Lot 35 Bagotstown residence about 04:45 hrs.
Haleema Khan, who occupies the house along with her husband, Faizul Razack and their seven-year-old daughter, Anisa Razack, said she had just awakened and was about to say prayers when she felt the impact.
The house shifted and she heard a loud sound.
The patriarch of the clan was reading his Quran downstairs when he was hit by debris but he was not present when the Guyana Chronicle visited, as he had gone to assist the Police with their investigations.
However, surrounded by other family members and close friends, Halima was calm as she speculated about the future.
Many among the scores gathered to offer sympathy expressed amazement at the unlikely circumstances of the occurrence. The vehicle had actually broken through the concrete wall surrounding the two-storey concrete and wooden edifice before ploughing into the upper flat.
It turned turtle and then remained firmly balanced between the house and the fence.
The spectacle was not totally devoid of humour as one neighbour asked an attending policeman what the charge for such an offence would be and he quipped “breaking and entering” because it was beyond the dangerous driving stage.
The four occupants of the vehicle had already been rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH). Being treated for multiple lacerations and other injuries were 25-year-old Sangera Reddy, of Lot 68 Seafield, Leonora; 15-year-old Renaldo Tiwari, of Lot 43 Seafield, Leonora; and Bharrat Singh, 25, of Lot ‘A’, Leonora Public Road and 32-year-old Robin Rajpersaud, of Lot 165 Stewartville, all on the West Coast Demerara.
