THE Demerara Cricket Club (DCC), as part of its cricketing development programme, will host a two-week Youth Cricket Camp at the club’s ground, Lance Gibbs and New Garden Streets, Queenstown, Georgetown, from Monday to September 2, commencing at 09:00hrs. The sessions will be, held Monday through Friday of each week, and the camp will be conducted by former National off-spinner and Youth coach, Garvin Nedd.
President of the DCC, Alfred Mentore, will declare the camp open at 08:45hrs on Monday.
The camp will be divided into two phases and will feature U-13 and U-15 cricketers during the week of August 22-26 while the second phase will feature the U-17 and U-19 players during the week of August 29 to September 2, 2011.
During week one, the Under-13s will be accommodated during the hours 09:00 to 12:00hrs, Monday to Friday, as will the U-17s in week two. The U-15s will be accommodated from 13:00hrs to 16:00hrs in week one, and the U-19s from 13:00hrs to 16:00hrs in week two.
Included in the programme of activities for the youth cricket camp are topics such as: Discipline and Personal Development; Training and Physiotherapy; Nutrition; Laws of Cricket; Social and Health Issues and the History of West Indian Cricket.
The event is open to all members of the DCC who fall within the age ranges mentioned above as well as to young cricketers within the community.
The club wishes to advise that there is a limit to the number of participants for each category, hence interested young cricketers who are not members of the DCC are requested to register no later than 17:00hrs today.
Registration is being conducted at the Club’s pavilion, beginning at 13:00hrs each day.
