FOLLOWING the disappearance of 13-year-old Cassey Crawford, from her Sophia home on August 8, 2011, residents reportedly informed her mother, Letta Lynch, that she was spotted in an ‘A’ Field, Sophia shop; and when her name was called, she fled. The woman has since made a report to the police, since her daughter is a minor, and she wishes for her to return home at the earliest.
The mother of five spoke to the media in an attempt to make a plea for her daughter to return home.
Cassey Crawford, of 43 Plum Park, South Sophia, Greater Georgetown, vanished after she left to go to the yard toilet.
Letta Lynch, 37, a city vendor, told the Guyana Chronicle that her daughter, a student of South Ruimveldt Secondary School, went missing a week ago.
Lynch suspects the teen has gone off with a male friend who resides in the same village, since she approached him following her daughter’s disappearance and he admitted that he knows the whereabouts of the teen, but will not cooperate.
Lynch said, “This boy, Mali, from the village, I asked him if he knows where my daughter is, and he said yes, but will not tell.”
She stated that the young man accused her of a lot of things, and that was his reason for keeping the girl away from her home.
The woman added that during school sessions, her daughter would abscond from classes and go to hang out with friends. She believes that the girl is also sexually active.
The vendor stated that she is unable to control the teen and even brought her before welfare officers
Lynch said once her daughter returns home, she will make a decision about her welfare, which she feels will be the right thing for her at this time.
At the time of the teen’s disappearance she was at home with a brother and her grandfather; and after she failed to return, a search revealed that she was not staying at any relatives’ home, and had taken her belongings with her, including photos, clinic cards and other things.
Members of the public are asked to contact the nearest police station or 669-4998 if they know the whereabouts of Cassey Crawford.
