THE president, executives and members of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) would like to extend heartfelt congratulations to the successful Universal DVD Club Berbice Titans on their remarkable victory in the 2011 Hit and Jams Jamzone T20 Tournament.
The victory continues the ongoing success story of Berbice cricket over the last four years and was the result of dedication, team unity and a united purpose to be the best in Guyana.
The BCB salutes manager Pastor Mark Lyte, coach Adrian Amsterdam and captain Royston Crandon for a job well done and to the entire team for making the Ancient County proud.
Senior players like Assad Fudadin, Esaun Crandon, Devendra Bishoo, Jonathan Foo, Veerasammy Permaul all led by example while the young guns like Richard Ramdeen, Anthony Bramble, Rajiv Ivan, Devon Clements and Eugene La Fleur all contributed to the success.
Berbice Cricket is without doubt at the top of its pillar because of the hard work of the BCB and everyone involved in the game in the Ancient County.
Our team was fully prepared for this tournament due to the success of the annual Senior Elite training programme and specially arranged practice matches and what was heartening to the BCB, whose motto is ‘All for One and One for All’, was that all of its hard work on and off the cricket field was resulting in positive returns.”
The BCB was criticised in some quarters for its refusal to field foreign players and in fact the Berbice team was viewed as underdogs for the tournament.
It was widely known that players came from as far as London, Port of Spain, Bridgetown and Kingston but a team of locally bred players won the tournament.
The BCB under the present administration strongly believes in the ability of its own players and in the belief that local products are always better than expensive imports and we would never play foreign players in front of our own and for two years now, the policy has proved to be correct.
The BCB would like to congratulate Hits and Jams for hosting a well-organised tournament and would also like to thank them for inviting the County to be part of it.
We also salute the thousands of fans who in true Berbice fashion supported our boys at the national stadium, with special thanks going to the Management and Staff of Universal DVD Club for their investment in Berbice cricket as the official sponsor of the team.
Berbice Cricket is without doubt on the move and the BCB would like to reassure all its stakeholders that the progress would continue in the years ahead.
