Once bitten twice shy

ONCE upon a time God took his rightful place in humankind after overthrowing Satan. Satan then went to the people and told them not to worry with God because he (Satan) has changed and that he will make their lives better. The people believed in and sided with Satan, and we know what happened after that. The PNC is doing the same thing that Satan did, but I don’t think the Guyanese people will buy it after what they went through under the PNC administration.
The British conspired with the USA, took Guyana from the Guyanese people and gave it to the PNC and the UF.  During the years they were in the government they ruled the country as if it were their personal property.
They ruled it with an iron fist and starved its population. As the world started to become more democratic the USA started to put pressure on the undemocratic rulers, so the PNC had to go.
In the news media, the opposition forces are calling for the taking back of the country. The country was taken back from the PNC in 1992 and given back to the people through the leadership of the PPP. Since then the lives of the people and development of the country have improved dramatically. It does not matter how the opposition and some of the private media try to fool the people, they cannot fool the majority of the people because history has shown us that anytime the PPP is in power there is always development.
When the PPP was in office from 1957 to 1964 Guyana became the bread basket of the Caribbean and was bracketed with the fastest developing countries. Although the United States had denied the PPP administration loans for agricultural development, the agricultural sector was booming rapidly. This prompted Burnham to promise the electorate that if he won the election there would be free milk and cassava bread.
After they took over the government milk and cassava were catapulted beyond the reach of the ordinary man. Then they even banned milk for babies.
The PPP took over the electricity company and started to improve it and created a plan to build a hydro project at Tiger Falls, which would have cost at that time ten million dollars. When the PNC took over the government they scrapped all the plans that were in place – what did they do?

(1) They scrapped the railway and bought buses.
(2) They said that the PPP was a rice government so they paid little or no attention to agriculture and started to build roads with loans from the USA.
(3) The army, police force, the Public Service and all the government agencies were loaded with their card-carrying supporters. Many people who did not support them were fired from their jobs and victimization caused those who were not fired to leave out of frustration.
(4) Burnham had wanted to close the University of Guyana, which he deemed as Jagan’s night school, but was advised by the chancellor not to do so.
(5)After corrupting and mismanaging the country there was no money to import anything.
(6)Burnham took over the bauxite and sugar industries, only to ruin these vital sectors. As usual, “dem boys” were given big positions and big salaries, and despite  dysfunctioning they could do no wrong. They were sprites from hell destroying everything in their way.
(7)Because they did not do anything for the people they had to rig the elections to stay in power. Today out of power they are going around like Satan, not begging for mercy, but demanding what is not theirs. They said that they have changed. Yes, they have changed,  but from bad to worse.
When the Bauxite industry started to show negative returns, Burnham took the profits from sugar and poured it into bauxite. The sugar workers were not given any increase so many of them left to find jobs in other places and other countries.
In 1957 when the PPP formed the government the G ($) was $1.75 to the US ($). By 1964 the dollar was G ($) 1.08 to the US ($). It was the second highest in the Caribbean next to the Jamaican dollar, which was $0.99 to the US ($). When Burnham died the dollar reached $3.84 to the US ($). When Hoyte took over he was forced to devalue the dollar by the lending agency. It was exchanging $10.00 to US ($), which made the people chant ten to one is murder. By the time Hoyte left office it had reached $120.00 to the US ($).
Dr. Jagan once said that it is not how much money we have, but how we manage it. Today the finances of the country are being properly handled, and that is why there are so many developments taking place.
Freddie Kissoon always says that the PNC did not have that kind of money that the PPP has today.
The PNC had a lot of money but they squandered it. Between 1974 and 1976, the PNC collected $600M from the sugar industry through a levy. What they did with it only the devil and their hierarchy know.
So all those who are calling for taking back the country must have been in hibernation for a long time and have just woken up, because they do not know that the country has already been taken back by the people.
