A close call for Ms Lawrence and children

A WOMAN and her children had a close brush with death yesterday afternoon when, as they were driving along the Madewini Public road, a power pole crashed onto the top of her vehicle.
The accident happened around 18:15hrs, about 100 ft from the Madewini Police out-post, an eyewitness who was driving behind the woman’s bus said.

The witness said he was terrified, and  fearing the worst, jumped out of his vehicle and hastened to their rescue. He recalled that the impact smashed the roof of the bus, crushing a built-in tray and the sliding door. The rescuer was forced to pull the children through the windows to safety.

Fortuntely no one was seriously injured, but the occupants of the vehicle suffered cuts and bruises and were traumatised. The vehicle, driven by the woman whose name was given only as Ms. Lawrence, was also badly damaged.

The man said he summoned the Madewini police who turned up and conducted an investigation. It is not clear whether the woman and children were taken to hospital to be examined and treated by medical authorities, nor how soon was power restored to the area in which the nearby police station is located.
