Police probing alleged drownings of miner, boy

POLICE are awaiting the results of a post mortem examination to assist in their investigations into the alleged drowning death of a young miner, which occurred at False Creek Backdam, three miles from Port Kaituma, in North West District. Kirk Hinds, 26, who also lived in Georgetown, had gone into the interior to work at a mining concession about a month ago.
His father, Kirk Hinds (Snr) told the Guyana Chronicle, yesterday, that, because the family is based in the city, they are unaware of what transpired. But, so far, the crew with whom his son was working, is being questioned by the police in that area.
The man said the body of the deceased is in a city morgue awaiting the autopsy tomorrow but, when he saw it, there was bleeding from the nose and mouth although he did not recall any marks of violence.

It was reported that, last Friday at about 13:00 hrs, Hinds (Jnr) went missing after the lunch break and his colleagues launched a search for him. After a while, they ventured into a pit where his hat was observed floating and felt his body which was hauled out from under the water and the police were informed.
Police are also investigating how 11-year-old David Mohammed, of Second Street, Friendship Squatting Area, died last Sunday after he took a plunge into the Garden of Eden canal, also on East Bank Demerara.
The deceased lived with his parents and five siblings but the adults were both at work when they received the sad news.
The lad had gone to fetch water about 08:00 hrs, when he was invited, by his friend who had accompanied him to take a swim.
After he plunged, not being a swimmer, he encountered difficulties and drowned.
