THE Government has awarded Hinterland Scholarships to five more students in Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam), according to Regional Chairman, Mr. Ali Baksh. The five are Oneeza Shaeed and Sherian Gonsalves, of Jacklow, Upper Pomeroon River; Mario Roberts, of St Deny’s, Tapakuma; Allana Katoon, of Wakapoa and Liza Frederick of Kabakaburi.
Baksh said he is very happy and pleased with the excellent performance of the winners at the recent National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) examination.
The scholarships were awarded under the Hinterland Scholarship Progamme of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs.
Students of hinterland communities in the region have access to quality education because of the Government’s massive investments in construction of new and modern schools with secondary tops and dormitories. Teachers are also trained by the Government to deliver better education to children in the hinterland, Baksh reminded.
