Mr.I. BASIR in the Monday, August 8, 2011 edition of the Guyana Chronicle (letters column), wrote in glowing terms of the dramatic transformation Region Two has undergone with the PPP/C government. Although, many persons would agree with Mr. Basir’s summation of the wonderful work the Region Two administration, under the leadership of Chairman Mr. Ali Baksh, in collaboration with central government, has done for the residents of the Essequibo Coast and the Pomeroon River district, it should be noted that Food for the Poor (FFP)(Guyana)Incorporated has also contributed hugely to the significant change in the livelihood of the people of the Cinderella county.
Four villages namely: Lil Red Village (Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast), Lil Red Village II (Siriki Sands, Pomeroon), Lil Red Village III (Princeville, Mainstay/Whayaka, Essequibo) and Lil Red Village IV (Georgeville, Capoey, Essequibo) have been constructed during the past four years to make life comfortable for Essequibians.
Two hundred and eighty-five houses with sanitation blocks and shower enclosures, schools, community centres, store houses, stores and water projects make up the four villages.
Further to the above, the non-governmental organsiation helps to sustain the villages with every conceivable item possible.
If I remember correctly, Mr. Baksh played a major role at the opening of most, if not all of the villages that were constructed in collaboration with the Roetheli Lil Red Foundation.
There are many committees throughout the length and breadth of the Essequibo Coast, that benefited tremendously from the generosity of Food for the Poor.
FFP also made significant contributions to Region Two development
