SOPHIA King, one of the top achievers at the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) and student at the Queen’s College, said that her results are unexpected. However, she is pleased with her performance. “I feel happy and I want to thank everyone who helped me both directly and indirectly, especially my cousin, my teachers, my family and my friends” King said.
The 17 year old told the Guyana Chronicle that while her success came with hard work, she wouldn’t classify it as a sacrifice, knowing what was her priorities were.
King, who secured five Grade Ones, said she will be furthering her studies to become a chemical engineer.
GRABBING four Grade Ones at her CAPE exams, 18 year old Shaniza Hannif said that while it was quite a challenge, she is happy with the way she preformed.
She thanked her parents, her teacher, friends and family that supported her during this time, and added that she is pleased that all her hard work paid off in the end.
“I had to spend late hours studying, early morning waking up to go classes, which I didn’t like at all, and I even had to go to school on holidays,” she said.
Hannif said that she is hoping to become one of the best orthopedic surgeons.
STEFAN Farier, a Sixth Form student at Queen’s College, obtained five Grade Ones at the CAPE exams, and attributed his success to his many nights of studying.
“I worked for this; I worked to the best I could have done, and I am glad that my performance paid out in the end, and that I got what I worked for; many nights my family would tell me that I am doing too much, but I was persistent,” he said.
The 18- year- old said that he intends to further his study through CAPE, completing the second units in the various subject areas.
AMONG several outstanding performers at this year’s CAPE exams was 18-year-old Youni Abdool who secured Grade One passes in the various subjects.
Abdool, a former student of the Bishops’ High, and a Sixth Former at Queen’s College, said that he is pleased to be among the top achievers.
“I always felt that doing Sixth Form was the best thing for me, and it did me justice,” Abdool added.
