A CONTINGENT of cricket umpires from the West Indies and an umpire representing the International umpires are due in Guyana in time to attend the funeral service of the late Clyde Duncan on Sunday. The party includes the newly elected president of the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association (WICUA), Cecil Fletcher, and the International Cricket Council (ICC) umpire Billy Doctrove.
The West Indies Cricket Board (WIBC) will be represented by Senior Cricket Operations Officer, Roland Holder.
WAKE
Meanwhile, cricket umpires and scorers of the Demerara and Georgetown Association will sponsor a night of reflection at the wake, set for tomorrow night from 19:00hrs at Umpire Duncan’s residence, 16 New Road, Vreed-en-Hoop, West Coast Demerara.
All umpires, scorers and friends are requested to attend. Persons in attendance will be allowed to reflect on their association with Clyde Duncan during his lifetime.
FUNERAL
Arrangements have been made for a public viewing of Duncan’s body at the famous GCC ground, Bourda, Georgetown, where Duncan stood in two Test cricket matches in 1991 and 1994.
Viewing will last one hour, from 09:00hrs to 10:00hrs on Sunday.
The body will then be taken to Umpire Duncan’s residence for another viewing to be followed by a church service at the Vreed-en-Hoop Wesleyan Church at 13:30 hrs.
At the church, tributes will be done by the Director of Sport Neil Kumar; a representative of the Guyana Cricket Board (GBC), a representative of the Guyana Cricket Umpires Council, the president of the Demerara and Georgetown Cricket Umpires and Scorers Association, Grantley Culbard, ICC Umpire Billy Doctrove, and WICB Senior Cricket Operations Officer, Roland Holder.
Persons intending to attend the funeral service are reminded that the Demerara Harbour Bridge will be closed for one and half hours on Sunday from 11:00hrs.
