SUMMER camps organised by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport are attracting a large number of students in Region 2.
According to Senior Sports and Culture Officer, Darshand Persaud, the first summer camp was held at Cilily Primary School in the upper Pomeroon River, while the second camp was held at the Akawini Primary School in the lower Pomeroon River. Persaud said the third camp was held at Queenstown Primary, while the fourth camp is in progress at C.V. Nunes Primary School, Anna Regina.
According to Persaud, some 238 students participated in the camps. He said activities included moral and guidance sessions, talks on HIV/Aids, health and safety environment, civic education, and the importance of staying in school.
Students are provided with free snacks and lunches while participating in the camp activities.
Mr. Persaud said students are awarded certificates at the end of each camp.
A king and queen are also selected from each camp to compete with other kings and queens from other regions at the national competition.
