Owning a home a dream now a reality for so many

OWNING a home is such an important dream to all Guyanese; a dream which is now a reality for so many Guyanese families, single parents, and ambitious youths. We read about the thousands of house lots that are given out every year and for some it is just a piece of news, but for others, it signifies something greater, something that represents power. For so many Guyanese owning a home for the first time, this is empowerment in so many ways, because it allows them to make a better life for themselves and their families. Monday’s edition of the Kaieteur News featured an article which stated that 3,700 house lots have been allocated so far for this year. This is in addition to the thousands already allocated over the years, in schemes across the country. Guyana’s landscape has changed drastically over the years, with new housing schemes developed with the necessary infrastructure. The story also stated that within another month the Housing Ministry will be allocating 1,200 plots on the West Coast of Demerara.
Gaining ownership over a piece of land is easy and the process is much shorter since the Ministry of Housing conducts same-day interviews and has taken its ‘One Stop Shop’ to several parts of the country processing thousands of applications. Some applications were processed during the Ministry’s Building Expo which was held over the weekend.
Owning a home previously under the PNCR administration was a privilege of the elite, but today, any employed person can be the owner of a home since this Government has made it possible for persons to have ownership of  land. Further, with the title, that allottee can access mortgages from a number of commercial banks at low interest rates since the lowering of the lending ceiling.
