Twenty-four escape death in jet-boat mishap

TWENTY-FOUR persons on Sunday narrowly escaped death when the jet-boat that they were travelling in sank in the vicinity of Marshall Falls, Mazaruni River.
Officials of the Bartica Hospital told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com ) that three of the passengers were air-dashed for further treatment at the state-run Georgetown Hospital. One of them, a teenage girl, was unconscious and irritable.
Initially, there were reports that one person was missing, but all of the passengers are alive and accounted for.
Police Commissioner, Henry Greene told Demerara Waves that the passengers were members of the Manniram family on the Essequibo Coast.
An official associated with the tour operator said Mr. Balkarran, police and other officials Monday afternoon returned to the scene of the accident.
The boat, owned by a man named Balkarran, shuttles passengers on tours to the Falls and other areas. Traveling to the falls during high tide and bad weather is said to be quite risky.
Marshall Falls is located about 15 minutes from Bartica, a gold mining township located south-west of Georgetown.(DEMERARA WAVES)
