Shooting of Corentyne brothers…

Eight arrested, including two women
EIGHT persons, including a cattle farmer and two women were, up to last night, in police custody as investigations continue into the shooting death of thirty-six-year-old Shawn Fraser and the wounding of his brother at Hogstye Village on the Corentyne coast.

Fraser, along with his younger sibling, Oudwin Bindha known as Audwin Fraser, age 34 years, both rice and cattle farmers of Adventure, Corentyne, had left their home to go to Hogstye backlands to pump water and spray their rice fields.
However, whilst walking along Govenor Dam, Hogstye, at about 17:00 hrs on Wednesday, they were confronted by known persons of Alness and Letter Kenny Villages, with whom they had a disagreement and who were armed with shot guns.
Police investigations have so far revealed that the brothers were confronted by three men armed with shotguns.

“The armed men opened fire on the two brothers who both received injuries. They were taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital where Shawn Fraser was pronounced DOA (Dead on Arrival), while Audwin Fraser was admitted a patient in a serious condition,” the police said in a statement.

This newspaper was told that Shawn Fraser received gunshot wounds on his left side face, above his left eye, forehead, chest and left arm.
As the news of the shooting spread in the closely-knit Corentyne communities, scores of persons transported by various vehicles, rushed to the backlands, where Fraser was seen lying motionless with a white plastic gallon-bottle, a bucket and a straw hat, seen alongside him, witnesses said.
He was escorted to Port Mourant Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is at Ramo Funeral home awaiting an autopsy report.
In the meantime, his brother Oudwin, who although was injured, had managed to flee from his attackers, informing another sibling who was cultivating another plot, before collapsing. He was subsequently taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital, where he was admitted, having sustained several gunshot injuries to his upper arm, chest and back. Medical sources said the condition is regarded as serious.
