Bills tabled to amend Guyana Energy Agency Act

…and for appointment of traffic wardens
PRIME Minister Sam Hinds yesterday tabled the Guyana Energy Agency (Amendment) Bill with a view to giving the head of the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) the powers to inspect premises for illegal fuel without a warrant, among other provisions.

In addition, Minister of Home Affairs Mr. Clement Rohee tabled the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Amendment Bill 2011.
This legislation, when enacted, will provide for the appointment of persons as traffic wardens. The functions of the traffic wardens will be to assist members of the Guyana Police Force in the control and regulation of road traffic or in the enforcement of the law relating to road traffic.
These persons will also perform duties in accordance with section 8 of the Summary Jurisdiction (Procedure) Act. As such, when the Bill is enacted, any references in section 8 of the Summary Jurisdiction (Procedure) Act to a member of the Police Force or police constable shall include a reference to a traffic warden.
