HENRY and Suzette Hartman, injured in an accident that claimed the life of their infant child, Malvin, at Mackenzie on Monday, and injured several others, are at the Balwant Singh Hospital in the city, where their condition is said to be stable.
Relatives in Linden said a check with the hospital around 3:00hrs yesterday revealed that they were both in stable condition and were being monitored ‘round the clock.’
However, relatives’ main concern is the couple’s six-year-old daughter, Maya, who had suffered severe head injuries and was slipping in and out of consciousness during the night. She is warded at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPH) and was due to have a head scan done.
Four-year-old Marvin, who had been unconscious when picked up from the accident and rushed to the GPH, is reported to be responding favourably to treatment at that institution. The eldest sibling, 15-year-old Malcolm is said to be in a stable condition as well.
Two girls from among the injured have since been discharged from hospital. They are 12-year-old Merissa Hartman and 13-year-old Denieha Kaiser, and are resting at home at Coomacka Mines.
Meanwhile, Henry Hartman’s nephew, Ulric, who suffered a fractured leg and hip was not transferred to the city, but had to be rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex last evening, after his condition deteriorated. He continues to be carefully monitored by doctors.
The accident occurred around 6:30hrs Monday as the commuters were being transported in the bus driven by Henry Hartman from Coomacka Mines, en route to Linden.
A police press release said that, the accident, which resulted in the death of Malvin Hartman, two years, of Coomacka Mines, Linden, happened around 7:30hrs on Monday, at Nottinghamshire Public Road, Old England, Linden.
