$500,000 bail on robbery under arms charges

GRIFFON Osafo Corbin, 24, of 67 Independence Boulevard, yesterday appeared before Magistrate Hazel Octave-Hamilton on two charges of robbery under arms.
Corbin was not required to plead to the two indictable charges. One of the charges stated that on July 1, at Camp Street, Georgetown, armed with gun, he robbed Donald Joseph of $4.7M in cash, property of N.V Beauty and Home System Limited.

The other charge stated that on July 1, at Camp Street, Georgetown, armed with a gun, he robbed Gavin Mackenzie of $2.2M in cash, property of N.V Beauty and Home System Limited.
Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson, representing Corbin, made an application for bail and told the court that his client was not identified in an ID parade and there is no evidence linking him to the offence.
Police Corporal Venetta Pindar, prosecuting, objected to bail on the ground of the nature and gravity of the offence. Pindar added that investigations revealed that Corbin acted in collusion with others to commit the offences, and the others are before the court.
The magistrate overruled the prosecutor’s objection to bail and this was granted in the sum of $250,000 on each charge.
The matter was transferred to Court One for September 8.
