GUYANESE are shocked and appalled by the Stabroek News(SN) editorial, ‘Jagdeo on the warpath…again’. This editorial from a major newspaper embarrasses us all because it points to the absolute lack of responsibility by those who are bent on sacrificing professional decency in the name of politics. The same Stabroek News likes to pretend that it is above ground, and that it is somehow the standard bearer of impartial journalism in Guyana. To everyday readers, however, the editorial is in the same category of high-textured miasmic substance deposited in the daily waterfall rag ‘Dem boys seh’. The editors of SN should be ashamed of themselves for allowing this putrid lump to make it to print.
The president indeed made some criticisms of the WICB, but apparently unbeknownst to Stabroek News, so have the entire Caribbean population. His comments on the hotel industry in the Caribbean are also in sync with popular opinion in the region. And finally, the attack on Donald Ramotar via the president is confirmation that the sole intent of the miasmic deposit is political.
If Stabroek News loves Granger it should simply embrace him because no one expects it to expose his role in the rigging machinery and quasi military dictatorship which he once served.
The editorial in question attacks the achievements of the PPP/C by reference to revolution. It must be noted that perhaps the greatest revolution in Guyana concerns a free press and free media. Never forget that.
