FREDDIE Kissoon has long earned the title of ‘enemy of the people’, but when a genuine character like the Director of Sports, Mr. Neil Kumar decided to speak out against him, one knows that his ‘sell-by’ date has now expired.
I am of the view that Mr. Kumar normally ignores his ranting, but this time, Kissoon is running around like a lunatic and Mr. Kumar grabbed hold of him before he destroys the image of a well functioning sports commission.
I have worked as a coordinator of the Inter-Guiana Games with Mr Kumar in Suriname and French Guiana and I found him to be a perfect gentleman and a person of impeccable character. He is fair-minded and a very patriotic person and I happened to be in meetings with him and high-profile personalities from Suriname and French Guiana . His fairness at those meetings is well known by everyone.
I therefore have no doubt that Mr Kumar knows the facts before he assesses Kissoon. Over the years, I have occasionally glanced at Kissoon’s articles and know his intention is to criticize the Guyana government with distorted information and lies. Many times I was tempted to reply but I refuse to stoop to his level. Now the time has come to expose Kissoon for what he is and not allow him to dominate the pages of the non- state newspaper.
The main aim of most of Freddie’s articles is to malign his own country, embarrass the people and government of Guyana , and in the course of doing so he shows disrespect for the country that gave him birth; all because he could not get what he wanted from the Government. But he should be proud that he lives in a country that gives him the freedom to spew his venom, distorted facts and propagate unproven theories. This is the person that time and again used the term of elected dictatorship to describe the political situation in Guyana . Under any other government, Kissoon would not have got away with the poison pen that he now so loosely uses to attack the current government. I visited Canada and New York lately and met with many Guyanese who expressed identical views. Ask any patriotic Guyanese from the Diaspora and they will tell you that Kissoon is an embarrassment to Guyanese and Guyana .
Mr Editor, it is truly unfortunate how Kissoon reacts towards the government of Guyana and the work it is doing. This ‘professor’ has a real knack for turning positives into negatives simply by altering a few words. If he is not in support of the Government, that is his fundamental right allowed by the same government he is criticizing, but why is he not putting political preferences aside and acknowledging the progress that the government has made over the years and recognize that the government is working fervently for the betterment for all the Guyanese people regardless of creed, colour, race or religion. People like Kissoon are the cause of disunity in Guyana when they spurt their trash.
Mr Editor, contrary to what Kissoon is portraying in some of his articles, Guyana started this year with much hope and optimism for further advancement in its ongoing social and economic progress. This year, the IMF observed that Guyana’s national economy continues to grow for the fifth consecutive year and also recognized Guyana’s ongoing housing boom. Is Kissoon deaf, blind or sleeping when these facts are released? If he is, then he and his cohorts who plan to disturb the coming election will come to their senses when they see the present government continuing to blast the trail of progress and development for the next five years. Want to bet on it Freddie?
Mr Editor, the Guyanese and indeed the Guyanese Diaspora are all annoyed with Kisson and the way he portrays Guyana to the outside world. His constant, unconstructive criticisms do not transmit the kind of message that we want to give to the outside world; that we are striving for progress, unity and peace. Luckily, patriotic and fair-minded people like Mr Neil Kumar who work for the progress and prosperity of all Guyanese are correcting evil minds like Kissoon.
