“It’s like a dream come true for us; I can’t believe that I will finally own a house where my family can be comfortable, and I want to thank Pandit Sugrim and the others who made this possible for us,” she said of the impending move to a decent home.
The mother of four, whose children range in ages from 15 to 11, said she’s been living where she is at present for the past 15 years, under some very abject conditions. For starters, she said, sleeping is a nightmare, as they are forced to make do with just two beds among them in an old condemned room underneath her father-in-law’s house. A nearby fireside serves as a makeshift kitchen, while the remaining space in the room is used to store whatever clothes and worldly possessions the family has.
Despite her circumstances, however, all four of her children are in school and doing exceedingly well at their studies. The family gets by on whatever little she makes doing the odd domestic job in the Enmore neighbourhood, and her husband Vicky’s earnings as a labourer at the Enmore Estate.
Thanks to the intercession last March of a kind Enmore resident, the family’s plight was brought to the attention of Pandit Sugrim, who made it his duty to meet with them during one of his regular visits here.

Having discussed the matter with other members of his organization, it was agreed to build them a concreted three-bedroom house of their own in neighbouring Haslington, the construction of which is projected to begin in the new week.
It is anticipated that within 10 to 15 days of the commencement of construction, which is being done by way of self-help, the family will be able to move into their spanking new home.

Pandit Sugrim, who will be on hand to assist with the construction, met the Harilalls on Friday to apprise them of a few conditions they will have to meet once they move in, such as paying an affordable, interest-free monthly installment.
He also promised to source sponsorship for the children’s education, once they continue to do well in school, and to keep their sponsors abreast of their performance by sending their pictures and report cards at the end of each term.
Upon hearing this piece of good news, three of the children said in unison that they will perform to the best of their ability and would like to further their studies.
