REO refutes media reports of food shortage at Port Kaituma Hospital

– Says there are “mischievous” persons in the region who make false reports to detract from development taking place there
THE Regional Executive Officer (REO) of Region One (Barima/Waini) Mrs. Mary Williams has vehemently refuted reports published earlier this week in another section of the media that there is a food shortage at the Port Kaituma Hospital.
“There is no food shortage at the hospital,” Williams told the Guyana Chronicle, via telephone, as she sought to dispel rumours that patients at the institution were not receiving meals owing to insufficient supplies.

“The Regional Health Officer, Dr. Nigel Langhorne, spoke to the Medex at the hospital and they had enough supplies to provide the patients with meals. There is nothing alarming that suggests that the institution was out of food since April,” she emphasized.
According to Williams, a team that included the Assistant Regional Executive Officer, was deployed to the hospital to investigate the veracity of the complaints and found that, though there was no shortage, the supplies were due to  be replenished.
In light of this, the REO stressed that monies are available at all times to ensure that the Port Kaituma Hospital and other institutions across the region are equipped with the necessary resources to provide services to the people.
She explained: “The monies are available to supply the region with supplies. In fact, we are prepared to deal with delinquent officers who do[not] fulfil their responsibilities in ensuring that supplies are available.”
As to the complaints of shortages, Williams noted that there are “mischievous” persons in the region who make false reports to detract from  development taking place there.
