MINISTER of Tourism Industry and Commerce, Manniram Prashad said yesterday that the new Transport Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, Devant Maharaj, is considering setting up an intransit lounge for Guyanese. Minister Prashad said he recently raised with the Minister the hassle Guyanese passengers face when transiting Trinidad and Tobago for onward destinations, and his response was that setting up an intransit lounge might be a good idea so that Guyanese passengers will no longer have to face harassment.
Recently at a press conference, President Bharrat Jagdeo argued the case for an end to what he believes is arduous in-transit security checks which Guyanese passengers have to endure at the Piarco International Airport while en route to other destinations.
For many years, Guyanese passengers have been enduring this difficulty of going through security checks at other airports, and having to endure the process for a second time while in-transit in Trinidad and Tobago. (GINA)
