LIKE many observers of recent (who have penned their views), and were unfairly criticised for them, the truth is beginning to ‘be made known’ and hopefully, it will ‘set the people free.’ The truth is that there is nothing good in the PNC-led APNU. A mere synopsis will show that this ‘new-name-same game’ entity (really nonentity) is really destined for failure by virtue of two basic factors.
First, it is a coalition of failures, and add to this the fact that it is an assembling of insignificant ‘politicians.’ So now, in a desperate attempt to save pride and to distract the Guyanese populace, it is engaged in political mischief. Look at the recent ploy.
There is this illogical claim that the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is out to dabble around with eligible, but non-qualified voters. This is because the registration of all eligible voters, for the upcoming regional and general elections, is still in limbo. The number is somewhere in the vicinity of 40,000 and the reason is that these ‘potential voters’ have not been able to register, because of inadequate or improper documentation. My point is simply one that seeks to establish candour in this regard.
First, GECOM is not a PPP/C component. Members of the opposition forces are on this commission (Just ask Mr. Robert Corbin). Also, it is in the best interest of all parties that this matter be resolved. The PPP/C did not create this, and it is not a sign that it is dilatory or in lassitude, as regards elections issues. Every player must be given his maximum opportunity, and this is what the re-opening’ of the process is about. There is no skullduggery here. As a caveat, I ask that all be reminded that all the opposition forces have all acknowledged that there is a significant number of eligible Guyanese, who are not on GECOM’s list of electors, because they were unable to secure the requisite source documents to facilitate their registration, before the close of the Claims and Objections period. So I ask, how and why, after having recognized the situation, the opposition forces are not interested in ensuring that all eligible Guyanese both on the coastland and hinterland be allowed to exercise their democratic right. I can also notice a collusion, in that there is a furtive union between the AFC and PNC/APNU-for AFC is ‘singing the same song,’ in a bid to disenfranchise eligible voters.
When I said in my first paragraph that APNU is an association of failed associates and insignificant politicians, I refer to the now exposed, embarrassed, and maybe dead PNC and its leaders. It has a litany of name changes, to add to its besmirched history. As regards the WPA, it is basically obsolete, and is simply awaiting funeral arrangements. The WPA died with Dr. Walter Rodney. And where the AFC is concerned, it has no visible constituency, and is still embroiled in a leadership crisis (of internal jealousy). The net effect of this is accepted defeat, but which therefore translates into all kinds of machinations.
As an important footnote, I do compliment GECOM for acknowledging that a large number of persons, both on the coast and hinterland, particularly in the hinterland, were unable to register due to no fault of theirs. So the most ethical of things to do is for GECOM to provide the opportunity to have these persons registered. This can be done and will be done without jeopardizing the elections. Thus the entire elections, processes and all will be devoid of any irregularities. This move should be welcomed by all. So the truth again, is that the opposition is seeking to create and implant suspicions, instead of supporting legalities and transparency.
