THE Alliance For Change (AFC) is already starting to play dirty games with the people and I am amazed that the prime ministerial candidate of the party, Sheila Holder, would say that those of us who fall in the group who were not registered do not matter.
The AFC commented on Capitol News that the 40,000 persons who are unregistered will not hold up the elections and was warning the Government not to postpone the elections. As far as I know, from the information in the media, the PPP did not give any indication that it wants to have the elections postponed. The PPP, I think, is most enthusiastic to have the elections held as soon as possible.
As a matter of fact, I was relieved when the PPP called for the registration period to be reopened because I know of other people who did not get the chance to register and would like to do so to have their opinions counted come elections day.
I feel that by making such a statement, the AFC was in fact saying to us that every Guyanese does not count and the views of some can be easily discounted.
It sometimes seems that the AFC and other opposition parties criticize for the sake of criticizing, because I feel that if they take some time to think, then they will perhaps consider a different course of action rather than the knee-jerk reaction we often see. The call by the PPP/C Administration for the registration period to be reopened, should, I think, benefit all parties. But since the call was made by the PPP, then the first reaction is to criticize before judging the merit.
Every eligible Guyanese should be given the opportunity to cast his/her vote
